..called my surgery today to enquire, whether...as a lecturer/teacher.......they would...let me have the flu jab..........bearing in mind that the previous surgery I attended was very happy to oblige. Bit of a long pause........"Let me check" she said............ thank goodness they were decent enough not to play "CRAP...you're on hold" noise. " No" she said..."It's not government policy" "Okay" I said...."but is it yours?"................bit of a long pause"! Yes" she said. ( I sort of didn't quite believe her....but had to...I couldn't see her eyes on the phone). "You can have the jab if you are over 65 years old and seriously ill.....under 65 and seriously ill....over 65 years old and healthy" "Ah" I said " Teaching is a bit of a threat to health.....will that count?" Quite mad.....working in a college I get dodgy student flu, shit ugly collegue flu, dog face flu, flu flu the camp receptionist flu and now.....bird flu. What next dear world.......antelope flu, great ape flu.......flea flu....that's a good one. Doctors in the UK have been advised to plan for 14 million victims. Life on earth has one or two downsides at the moment. HIV/Aids, Avian Flu, Mad Cow....what else..........humans who don't doubt........more deadly than all of the illnesses put together. Oh and then we have all that ground shaking stuff that moves mountains and oceans......plus the odd rain shower or two that drowns cities. But still worse than all that is the dogma idiot. You know the one.....the one with a real intelligence...bright eyed........bushy tailed..............and profoundly ignorant.

Pakistan and the Indian sub continent has been thrown around by some massive quake....loads of people missing and dead...................Central America had a battering from wind and rain and a bundle of people are missing and dead there. Who will exploit these disasters....will it be the liberals or the fanatics or will it be both, holding hands and doing the dance of death............pointing a finger into history to lay the blame and justify their particular hate? Strange day....it felt more about becoming winter than the last few days .........which splashed about in the tail warmth of summer........false sense of hope............however......hope resides in a break to a Greek Island at half term..........maybe a good week of warm sunshine before the dreary climb down into winter.
