Well, have just returned from Zakynthos or Zante. Apart from a couple of dull weather days ...one at the start and the other at the end.....and a hotel that smelt of dead dogs, babyshit and nicotine stained underwear.....it was a good place to be. We escaped the Kalamaki resort and hotel with a hired car...and with the good sense of Isolde we went down a track to look at a Villa on the beach.....a good ten kilometers from the rooms from hell and with a mountain range in between. What a good move. We met Soula, the widow of Ville Fiore, who was beautiful, charming and deserved the money we paid for the rooms....in fact even more...money that is. From then on it was a daily vist to Zycanthos Town....a wheel around the views...and every second day a 10K run. The food scene...whew.....some desperately bad mistakes....and some gems. Today we were on strike across the nation............NATFE.....that is..............sad/cold, further education teachers stood outside colleges the length of the country with banners saying someting like.....give us some more money ...please............perhaps another 6,000 a year would not go amiss........it would just bring us up to the same wage as primary/secondary school teachers. 'fraid nobody is gonna listen....not after the "black propaganda" of the previous day when "FAILING FE COLLEGES TO BE SOLD OFF TO PRIVATE COMPANIES" was the news item on all the media.............strange really...the timing........and not a word was said about the strike the next day. My view on strike action as changed..........until today I was a scab......I worked through every strike called................my students were more important to me. However, last year I cracked up, the workload was unsustainable..........the advice I was given was "Do your job badly, that'
